About REDD+ Malaysia

In Malaysia, REDD+ supports the vital role its forests play in climate change mitigation, contributing to the reduction of GHG emissions. REDD Plus activities in Malaysia will also recognise the importance of forests in conserving biodiversity and providing ecological services, which in turn support the provision of adaptation benefits for society. REDD Plus activities in Malaysia are implemented through a phased approach, building upon existing systems and national priorities while considering cost-effective implementation. Sustainable management of forests is key to Malaysia's REDD Plus approach – this practice promotes transitions from managing forest for its resources to managing forest for its natural capital.

What is REDD+?

REDD+ stands for Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries.

REDD+ is a UNFCCC framework that provides incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation while conserving, sustainably managing and enhancing forest carbon stocks.
